Herencia Hispana — Voices of Hispaniola
For Hispanic Heritage Month (September 30 – October 15, 2026), Lobey Art & Travel presents Herencia Hispana: a daily bilingual video series in which the historical figures of Hispaniola speak in the first person — Taíno caciques, African resistance leaders, and the men and women who shaped the island's first century.
Each short monologue was published in English and Spanish on Lobey's Facebook Page. Watch them there, and share them.

Why This Series
Hispaniola is where the Americas changed forever — the first encounters, the first resistance, the first maroon communities. Herencia Hispana tells that history through the people who lived it, in the two languages the island speaks today. It is part of Lobey Art & Travel's ongoing work connecting the Caribbean's past to its living cultures — the same work behind our cultural travel to Cuba and the Festival del Caribe in Santiago de Cuba.
